Why Does Obama Hate American Workers?

The Chavez twins
Barack Obama is the Hugo Chavez of North America

Western Hero doesn't celebrate international communist holidays, but we recognize our American Labor Day, since it has been cleansed of it's embarrassing socialist origins.

Obama and the Democrats Wage War on the American Worker

Obama used the power of the state to punish another enemy this past week, sending armed agents to storm a guitar factory whose owner had the temerity to not bribe, er... pay a campaign contribution to the Obama campaign.  The pretext?  Indian workers should have sanded those boards, not Americans!

Boeing's newest plant remains shuttered and thousands out of work because Obama has again used the power of the state to punish South Carolina for not voting for him.

Add to this the fact that President Obama's "Jobs" Czar has shipped tens of thousands of jobs to China, and it is clear that President Obama and the Democrats hate the American worker and have done everything in their power to discourage American businesses from hiring them.

President Obama and the Democrats are gold-plated members of the DC-Chamber of Commerce Cheap Labor Cabal that supports the exploitation of illegal immigrants.  They violate the human rights of immigrants while denying millions of American workers a decent wage for their labor.  Millions more Americans are completely out of work thanks to the Democratic party jobs program for illegal immigrants.

Strangling Job Creators with Red Tape

Another dictatorial tactic is to tangle up a company with confusing and contradictory regulations so that no matter how diligent and sincere its efforts are, an army of compliance bureaucrats can storm its offices and quickly find damning evidence of corporate malfeasance and disobedience to the state.

Trucking company Old Dominion took an alcoholic trucker off the road, following Department of Transportation regulations.  That same action ran afoul of another government agency, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). (See the Human Events article)  Another company impaled upon the horns of a government-created dilemma.

We need to get rid of EEOC, Department of Labor and every other agency that enforces labor laws or enshrines the enforcement of some laws over others.  So many government agencies serve as nothing more than infestations of special interest activists to they can sap this nation from the inside by using the government's powers against their enemies.  It is a sure sign of a destructive, hidebound government when one private sector business action complies with one government regulation while simultaneously breaking another.

Pass the laws and let violations be dealt with in civil court.  As a bonus to liberals, that action could increase labor union membership, making unions actually useful again as an advocate before the bar for workers whose rights have been abused by employers.

Our government must also cease raiding places of business as if they were Al Qaeda strongholds.  The federal government's armed raid on the Gibson Guitar factory was a gross overreach befitting a Latin American dictatorship, or perhaps a Russian Kleptocracy raid on BP.

Obama's Jobs Machine is Stuck in Reverse

So if you're out of a job, you should be marching on the White House and demanding an end to job killing statism that supports foreign workers over American workers.  Demand an end to illegal immigration that is stealing millions of jobs.  Tell the government to call off the regulatory gestapo that harasses the people who hand you a paycheck.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I thought that GWB did a lot of such outsourcing, too.

I can't wait to hear Obama's new jobs program. It has to be a winner if it is so important that he asked to address a Joint Session of Congress. I'd be willing to bet that it will in fact kill more jobs than it creates.

The First Labor Day

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

Labor Day Legislation

Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. From them developed the movement to secure state legislation. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the year four more states — Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York — created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.

I don't see how you can imply that a holiday started with individual states and approved by those individual states is somehow a "communist" inspired holiday. Especially in view of the fact that the Soviet Union did not exist when the idea of Labor Day started in this country.

And about those jobs being shipped overseas:

“When a good or service is produced at lower
cost in another country, it makes sense to import
it rather than to produce it domestically.”
—Economic Report of the President,GWBush, p. 25,
February 2004

“Outsourcing is just a new way of doing
international trade. More things are tradable
than were tradable in the past. And that’s a
good thing.”
—N. Gregory Mankiw, Chairman of
President Bush’s Council of Economic
Advisors, Feb. 9, 2004

The outsourcing of U.S. jobs “is part of trade...
and there can’t be any doubt about the
fact that trade makes the economy stronger.”
—U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow,
March 29, 2004

Republicans support outsourcing. But you seem to be against it only when it happens under a Democrat.

Silverfiddle said...

The president does not do any outsourcing, but he can implement policies that help or hinder it.

My point is neither pro nor con on outsourcing.

My point is that liberals cry and scream against outsourcing, yet GE CEO Jeffrey Imelt has outsourced tens of thousands of GE jobs to China, yet Obama names him Jobs Czar.

That makes no sense! But little about this administration does.

Look at how many people are out of work, and Obama goes after employers. Using liberal logic (that concludes we want to push granny down the stairs), he must hate them.

Do I really express myself so poorly? Am I too tongue in cheek?

Look well upon the men who dig in mines,
And work machines in mills and factories grim.
Be aware that those who tend the vines
Or till the soil give much for wages slim.
Reaping, sowing, weeding, hoeing make
Full the nation’s store of nutriment.
Overland the burly truckers take
Rich provisions and accoutrement
Coast to coast. The teamsters load and haul
Enormous hordes of stuff that we’ve empowered,
Shipped in freighters, stored in silos tall,
Delivered, well-displayed, and then devoured.
Awards are due to goods and who supplies them,
Yet the wise despise the guys who advertise them.

The recent spate of forcing children who set up lemonade stands in front of their homes to shut down, because their products haven't been vetted by the FDA and the EPA or the ten year olds didn't obtain a business license that would have cost more than they could possibly hope to take in is symptomatic of the government overreach -- the penchant for tyrannical micro-management -- that kills initiative and takes all the joy out of life -- the approach to government that is slowly-but-surely killing this country.

Do we need regulation?

Of course.

We just don't need the kind of regulation we've been getting in latter years, and we need a whole lot less of the kind for which we do have a legitimate need.

"THE GOVERNMENT THAT GOVERNS BEST GOVERNS LEAST"

Before you go gung go for Nanny State Socialism, ask yourself, "Who gets to hire the Nanny, and who gets to see that she gets fired, if she abuses the children in her care?"

Conservatives don't hate the labor force, they hate the would-be tyrants who exploit the concerns of labor to gain personal power at the expense of the health and strength of our economy. It has been the demands of unions and the draconian policies their lackeys in government put in force who have virtually priced American Labor out of existence.

It hasn't been the greed of CEO's that's driven Industry to outsourcing; it's been the deadly partnership between Big Labor and Big Government working hand-in-hand to weaken, maim and ultimately destroy Capitalism -- the only engine that creates wealth, and makes leisure time possible for all who work.

That's absolutely correct. However, there is a universe of difference between importing because something can naturally be obtained more cheaply that way and importing because government regulations have created an artificial barrier to cheaper product domestically. What we have now is the federal government regulating domestic operations out of business or out of the country.

z, you don't have much of an understanding of the Pullman strike or American labor history.

Silverfiddle and yourself are doctrinaire Libertarians and may well see child labor laws as "excessive" regulation. The sentiment has been expressed by Baggers in Maine.

But at any rate you'll be quite happy to have the nation back to the state it was under the Robber Barons and will absolutely refuse to admit the progress achieved by the left building a middle class in America.

I went down to Lynn beach and walked a few miles listening to Democracy Now! They had Billy Bragg on for the full hour and he ha a lot to say about trying to avoid cynicism. That's going to be very difficult unfortunately in the face of the Bagger threat. I do fear for the country.

But I'll tell you that my family has been through a lot more of the American labor movement in the Merrimac valley and knows a bit more about it than someone who apparently hasn't ha a job for at least 30 years.

REPORT: The American Middle Class Was Built By Unions And It Will Decline Without Them

Labor Day was first celebrated in
the late 1880′s as labor activists from the American Federation of Labor (which later formed part of the basis for the AFL-CIO) and other unionsrallied around a day to celebrate organized labor and to take a day off.

In 1887 Oregon started a formal “Labor Day” and by 1897 President Glover Cleveland made it a federal holiday, reacting to pressure from unions following the contentious Pullman Strike.

And yet, despite the many benefits unions have provided the United States,right-wing politicians and business interests have for years sought toundermine the ability of Americans to organize to demand better pay, benefits, and conditions. From the anti-worker Taft-Hartley Act to the recent GOP-led efforts to kill public worker collective bargaining
rights, these assaults have successfully decreased union membership over time. In the prosperous 1950′s, nearly one in three Americans was in a
union. Today, it is closer to one in ten.

This has had a
deterimental effect on the American middle class. As the following chart
from CAP’s David Madland and Karla Waters demonstrates, as union
membership fell from the 1970′s to the present, the middle class’s share of national income fell as well:

Obama's stimulus a success? I'm sure the legions of unemployed will be happy to hear that.

Government creates jobs? OK, why doesn't the government just hire everybody? Problem solved!

More importantly, where would government get the money to hire all these people to build all this infrastructure?

Do you even think this crap through?

Let me help you...

How about taking the dictatorial boot heel off job creators so that people have jobs again? Government taxes the workers and the businesses to pay for the infrastructure.

And the WINNER of Today's Award for Brightest Most Succinct Summation of All That Is Wrong with Our Economy Goes to BASTIATARIAN for:

"What we have now is the federal government regulating domestic operations out of business or out of the country."

I would only add that government in bed with the unions, who have provided the pressure that brought about these lethal regulations is the most important factor.

The great irony is that UNIONISM, which is very very close to Marxism in sentiment and affect, came into existence to protect and enhance the lives of rank and file working people (i.e. the non-owner, non-executive class), and what it has done, instead, is drive companies out of business and foster outsourcing.

The "Indians" always accuse the "Chiefs" of GREED.

Perhaps, but the greed of the "Indians" (i.e. the workers led by their unionist leaders) is not only punishing the "Chiefs" (i.e. CEO's and Executives) it is killing off the "Tribes."

Excessive greed brings about its own punishment on all sides.

Ergo, the element that drives the entire economic situation is ultimately MORAL. How about that, baseball fans?

I have to say that the EEOC and Department of Labor need to go. They don't help anyone, believe me I know firsthand. They care more for the companies than the people they are supposed to be representing.

Money is all that matters to them. That's all they care about.

As for outsourcing, I wish there was a way to put high penalty costs to any company that wishes to use companies outside the United States.

It is a great irritant for many of us to call an AMERICAN company only to get someone with such a heavy accent that they can't understand a darn word you are saying or vice-versa!

Joe Conservative said...

Jobs have increased under Obama but not at a rate which will absorb the growing work force.

Keep telling yourself that duckmeister...

The real unemployment rate is comprised of the official unemployment rate, those employed part-time because they cannot find full-time work, and those marginally attached to the labor force: people who have stopped looking for work but would return to the labor force if jobs were available.

All told, the total number of Americans who are truly unemployed – those that make up the real unemployment rate – is now 26 million people, according to the Labor Department data.

Part-time jobs don't feed families.
